Josh Brolin is a devoted father and an enormously successful actor, but his true talent is as a writer.
In an attempt to promote the second installment of the franchise, “Dune: Part Two,” this week, Brolin, who plays Gurney Halleck in Denis Villeneuve’s “Dune” films, took a more inventive approach. On social media, he posted a unique synopsis of the movie that reads more like a Hollywood-themed riddle than formulaic promotional prose.
The release of DUNE 2 is in less than TWO WEEKS! Wonka and Robot Lady fall in love. On his Instagram page on Tuesday, Brolin said, “Then Elvis tries to f— it all up while his bad dad floats in a pool of pond scum.” The WWE guy from the Gardians becomes really mad, and Wonka Obi Wan gets attention from a hot Midsomer girl right after his mother is found using LSD in a sandy toilet. Chigurh is still not fond of the Goonies guy.
Bewildered? In this caption, Brolin cites certain co-stars from “Dune: Part Two.” Let’s take a time to figure out which of them he is referring to and what Arrakis, or Earth, he is talking about.
Starting this week, we’re going to assume that Zendaya is the “Robot lady” in reference to this futuristic outfit she wore to the London premiere of “Dune: Part Two.” And Timothée Chalamet, who plays Paul Atreides in “Dune: Part Two” and acted as the renowned chocolatier in the 2023 movie, is undoubtedly “Wonka.” (Warner Bros. Pictures, which is owned by Warner Bros. Discovery, distributes both “Dune” and “Wonka.”)
Of course, “Elvis” is Austin Butler, who is still unable to shed his accent from his role in the Baz Luhrmann biopic on the King of Rock ‘n’ Roll released in 2022. Brolin’s allusion to “bad dad” is probably a jab at Stellan Skarsgård’s villainous “Dune” character Baron Vladimir Harkonnen, who actually floats in a puddle of filth.
Dave Bautista, who portrays Glossu Rabban in the “Dune” universe, is that “WWE dude” from the “Guardians of the Galaxy” saga. Florence Pugh, who appeared in the horror movie “Midsommar,” is the “hottie.”
With us thus far? Excellent, let’s proceed. In the “Dune” reality, Rebecca Ferguson is the “Mom” that Brolin refers to when discussing a particular hallucinogenic, which is actually a made-up substance called Melange.
In conclusion, Brolin is the “guy from The Goonies,” while Javier Bardem portrayed the evil Anton Chigurh in “No Country for Old Men” (for which he received an Oscar). Naturally, both actors will be featured in the upcoming second “Dune” film, which opens in theaters next week.
Brolin then concentrated on the cinematic magic to tie things together after including some cryptic hints in his post. In his subsequent post, he asked his followers to “commune again and experience that amazing feeling of when the lights go down… and DUNE 2 consumes you,” adding, “I mean who doesn’t want to see all that on IMAX.”
“Dune: Part 2,” the follow-up to 2021’s “Dune,” stars Christopher Walken, Léa Seydoux, and Charlotte Rampling, and centers on the ascent of Chalamet’s valiant Paul Atreides.
The iconic 1965 science fiction book “Dune” by the late Frank Herbert served as the inspiration for the film series.
On March 1, “Dune: Part Two” will hit theaters.
